FA Vase News. Monday 17th November
The draw for the 3rd Round of the FA Vase took place at lunchtime today and Waders have drawn Wivenhoe Town at home. 'The Dragons' ply their trade in the Ridgeons League Premier Division having been relegated from the Ryman League at the end of last season.
Wivenhoe also joined The Vase at the first Round Proper stage and have seen victories at Potton Utd (3-1) and at home to Conard Utd (3-0). They are currently 3rd in their division, 1 place above Leiston and trailing to Dereham and Lowestoft (top).
Waders Manager Chrs Nunn was delighted with the draw "We're at home and that's a good start, we're playing a team from a league I know very well, and I know some of their players too. Of course we will have them watched between now and 6th December and we will do our homework thoroughly on this recently remodelled but very useful footballing outfit."
From The Carlsberg Stadium Jon Smith added "Another tough draw for us, The Ridgeons League is notorious for it's staggeringly high player wages and we are most certainly the poor cousins on paper in this one, despite Wivenhoes recent changes. I know our players will be up the physical challenge that this will undoubtedly bring but it is all very exciting and we can't wait. They were in the Ryman last year and are probably favourites for this, but we will make them most welcome and hope they enjoy their day out with us - but not too much! "
If a replay is required it will take place at Wivenhoe's Broad Lane Ground on Tuesday 9th December.
Wivenhoe's website can be found HERE
9th October.
The draw for the 2nd Round Proper of The FA Vase has thrown Waders a tough away tie at Premier Division rivals Kentish Town. More soon.
26th September. The Football Association have announced that The FA Vase will be visiting The Carlsberg Stadium on Saturday 4th October. Biggleswade Town host Berkhamsted Town in the first round proper of the competition with both teams having received byes to this stage. Photogrpahs wioth The Vase can be taken and there is a free to enter competition. Turnstiles open at 12.30pm.
1st July 2008. The draw for the early FA Vase Rounds have been made today. For the first time in many years Biggleswade Town were exempted through to the first round proper, missing two qualifying rounds in the process.
The reward is a home tie with Berkhamsted Town, newly relegated to the SSML Premier Division.
Waders manager Chris Nunn was sanguine about the draw. "Of course they are a fresh face in our division and I would probably have preferred not to have played them in the Vase at this stage. To us they are an unknown entity at present, but we shall certainly have an opportunity to do our homework on them. Who knows, by October we may well have met in league competition".
